Mitch McPherson and Natasha Cloak are pictured on stage at the Tasmanian Suicide Prevention Forum, for a Q&A session on the theme of channelling lived experience into community action.

At the end of March, Hobart played host to the annual Tasmanian Suicide Prevention Forum, organised by the Tasmanian Suicide Prevention Community Network (TSPCN). It was a gathering filled with thought-provoking discussions, insightful presentations, and a shared commitment to driving positive change in our community.

We were honoured to have our very own Tash and Mitch take the stage to share their journey with attendees, for a Question and Answer session on the theme of “Channelling lived experience into community action”.

Mitch and Tash shared deeply personal stories of resilience, growth, and the transformative power of channelling lived experiences into meaningful action. They spoke candidly about how their own experiences of tragedy served as catalysts for them to pioneer innovative approaches to supporting Tasmanians in their mental health journeys.

As we look back on this moving session, we’re reminded of the importance of coming together to support one another, to listen, and to learn. Events like the Tasmanian Suicide Prevention Forum provide invaluable opportunities to drive meaningful change and create a more compassionate and supportive community for all.

As well as the Forum, the TSPCN hosted their annual LiFE Awards, a significant event celebrating individuals making strides in suicide prevention efforts. Stay ChatTY proudly sponsored the Outstanding Contribution to Suicide Prevention by a Young Person award for the seventh consecutive year, and we’re thrilled to announce Meriem Daoui as this year’s deserving recipient.

Meriem’s unwavering dedication to suicide prevention and mental health advocacy shines through her various roles and fundraising initiatives, leaving a profound impact on those around her. Her personal journey, marked by battles with depression, anxiety, and bullying, has fueled her determination to make a difference and support others facing similar challenges. Meriem’s story serves as a beacon of inspiration for all, embodying resilience, compassion, and the power of turning adversity into advocacy. Congratulations to Meriem and all the other deserving award winners! 💙
